Cavalia returns to Scottsdale with a never-before-seen version of Odysseo that will dazzle you.
Spectacular hardly seems sufficient to describe the showmanship, horsemanship, and beauty presented by the 2018 Cavalia Odysseo production. This new version of Cavalia Odysseo marries equestrian arts and stage arts in an awe-inspiring event.  Cavalia Odysseo gallops into Arizona with a magical, grandiose, larger than life theatrical experience.  The show runs through March in the Big White Top Tent located in Scottsdale.
Cavalia was last in Scottsdale five years ago, and they have returned with an even bigger theatrical experience that will mesmerize audiences of all ages.  The production now features more magnificent horses (70) of 12 different breeds and more talented artists (50) that include riders, acrobats, dancers, aerialists, stilt walkers, and musicians.  The $30 million breathtaking production has grown considerably in size and scope over the last few years without losing its soul. The stage itself is nearly twice its original size, enabling larger-scale and even more cutting-edge performances. For breathtaking perspectives, the new scenic space includes a full 3-story high mountain built with 10,000 tons of earth.  You really don’t need to go to Vegas to see a Vegas show while Cavalia Odysseo is in town.
Cavalia Odysseo grabs our attention immediately with its signature White Big Top.  The largest touring tent in the world stands 125 feet tall and spans the size of a NFL football field.  This custom-designed and engineered “traveling theatre” was created by Cavalia Founder Normand Latourelle and engineering masters Asteo of France and Genivar of Canada. This beautiful structure creates a surprisingly intimate, mystical feeling and space in which to enjoy this breathtaking production.
The 17,500 square foot stage, larger than a hockey rink, along with a 50 foot-wide backstage, creates a vast playground for horses and artists.  This scenic space recreates nature on stage, including a life size merry-go-round and the seemingly magical appearance of a lake made of 40,000 gallons of recycled water.  Other production marvels include a state of the art visual screen (three times the size of the world’s largest movie screen), that utilizes 18 simultaneous projectors to create a multi-dimensional journey that is revolutionary in live entertainment.
Cavalia Odysseo requires the creation of a literal village to support their traveling production.  This village sprouts from a flat space of open land in a few short weeks before the horses and artists arrival and includes five tents:  the White Big Top, the VIP Rendez-Vous Tent, the Stable Tent, the Warm Up Tent, and the Kitchen Tent. The White Big Top Tent houses the stage, backstage, seating, and lobby areas under a single roof. The VIP Rendez-Vous Tent hosts the VIP ticket holders for full meal buffet where they enjoy an open bar and photo opportunities with the artists.  The VIP package also includes the best seats in the house and best of all –  a not-to-be-missed tour of the stables to meet the four-legged stars!
The Stable Tent houses the 70 horses in a climate-controlled space complete with wash area, tack shop, and a blacksmith department.  Between the White Big Top and the stables is the Warm-Up Tent.  Here riders rehearse and play with the horses before and after the show.  This area includes wardrobe, makeup, and dressing areas for the human artists as well.  And a group of this size needs to be fed. The Kitchen Tent is a full catering kitchen preparing more than 300 meals daily for the artists and support teams on the tour.
The Cavalia Odysseo artists, both human and equine, are incredible in their skill, training, and ability to perform incredible physical feats which are executed at a tremendous pace during the performance.  The 70 horses in the performance represent 12 different breeds from around the world.  The equine performers include Appaloosas, Arabians, Canadian Horses, Warmbloods, Lusitanos, Paint Horses, Percherons, Hanoverian Crosses, Quarter Horses, Selle Francaises, Thoroughbreds, Spanish Purebreds (P.R.E.) and Warlanders.  An interesting fact, all the horses are male, either stallions or geldings. They hail from six countries including Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, the United States, and Canada.  The average age of the equine stars is nine, with the youngest being six and the oldest performer is 14.
The heart and soul of every performance is the age-old bond between human and horse.  The company fosters an environment where patience, trust, and deep-seated respect for the horses comes first.  Cavalia’s training methods are designed to ensure that the horses enjoy training and performing on stage.  The trainers pay close attention to the feedback from their horses. Every request is adapted and respectful of what the horses are ready to offer.
The fifty human co-stars to the beautiful Cavalia Odysseo equine stars include acrobats, aerialists, riders, dancers, and musicians.  The artists represent 11 countries including the United States, Canada, Brazil, France, Italy, Guinea, South Africa, Poland, Russia, Spain, and Ukraine.  The magnificent costumes for the production required a team of 13 dressmakers, one property master, one designer, and one shoemaker to design and create the 350 costumes and 100 pairs of shoes and boots in the show.  An individual artist may have seven different costume changes during a performance with no more than 30 seconds to do a quick costume change between numbers.
As friends, partners, and inseparable performers on stage, the 70 horses and 50 human artists lead the viewer on a journey to another world – a world of dreams. Together they discover some of earth’s most unforgettable landscapes.  The performance scenes follow the seasons and their beautiful transformations. At times the horses and people in this fabulous sensory feast become too numerous to count.
Cavalia Odysseo has once again managed to artfully and magnificently marry the equestrian arts, stage arts, and high-tech theatrical effects at never-before seen levels.  This is a revolutionary live production filled with superlatives:  the world’s largest big top tent and touring production, the biggest stage, the most beautiful visual effects, and the largest number of horses performing at liberty.
Although the creative genius and monumental scope of Cavalia Odysseo boggles the mind, the essence of this equestrian odyssey is a live performance that feeds the soul.  Cavalia Odysseo offers an experience that is magical, beautiful, and tender.  The poetry flowing from this grand adventure shines a light on a more humane world where human and horse live in harmony.  The spectator is transported to discover new horizons, unlimited imagination, and a dream world where beauty, serenity, and hope reign.
Prepare to be wowed. Don’t miss out on a show of a lifetime.
